Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky, is an internationally recognized leader in equine medicine and surgery, combining cutting-edge technology with a collaborative team dedicated to advancing equine health and performance. Our busy, fast paced, tertiary care medical and surgical facilities provide expert 24/7 care in one of the most equine dense populations in the world.
Position Overview
Join our team as an Overnight Emergency Equine Veterinary Technician/Assistant who supports on site hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients.
- In this position you will be working with a group of team members within the Surgery Barn and facility.
- Days and hours are 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts (10PM-8AM).
Responsibilities include:
- Answering and dispatching emergency calls/client communication.
- Assisting doctors to admit and triage emergency cases.
- Assisting the team with emergency surgical operations as needed.
- Perform directed patient care needs and nursing care. This includes patient handling, monitoring patient status, examinations, medication administration, husbandry needs (feeding, cleaning etc.), maintaining patient records.
- Maintaining medical supplies, equipment and facility cleanliness/biosecurity.
- Admitting, discharging, loading and unloading patients.
Qualifications
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position
- Prior experience with horses (personal experience included within this) is required. We have a preference for candidates who have had prior work experience with horses, or equine technician/assistant experience.
- We do not require a Veterinary Technician License or other equine certifications, but they are a significant benefit.
Schedule
- Night Shift, 10:00pm - 8:00am
Compensation
- The compensation range for this role is $16.00-$18.00/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
- This role qualifies for additional shift differential pay.

Pay Range
$16-$18 USD
