What You’ll Do
As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you'll provide hands-on patient care while supporting veterinarians during emergency cases, procedures, and treatments.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform patient triage and assist with emergency assessments
- Obtain patient histories and monitor changes in patient condition
- Perform venipuncture, blood collection, and IV catheter placement
- Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as directed
- Perform in-house laboratory diagnostics and prepare samples for reference laboratories
- Monitor anesthesia and assist with surgical and emergency procedures
- Support emergency treatments and patient recovery
- Assist with radiology and diagnostic imaging
- Maintain accurate medical records and treatment sheets
- Communicate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and clients
- Provide compassionate support to patients and their families during emergency situations
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of veterinary clinical experience
- Experience in Emergency, Urgent Care, Specialty, or high-volume General Practice
- Strong foundation in veterinary nursing and patient care
- Confidence working independently while remaining a collaborative team player
- Comfortable with:
- Emergency triage
- Venipuncture and blood collection
- IV catheter placement
- Medication administration
- Fluid therapy
- Anesthesia monitoring
- Laboratory diagnostics
- Patient monitoring
- Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail
- LVT credentials are preferred, but not required
Experienced non-credentialed Veterinary Technicians or Veterinary Assistants with strong emergency experience are encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
This position requires working in a busy emergency veterinary hospital where patient care is the highest priority.
Qualified candidates should be able to:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and remain active throughout extended shifts
- Safely restrain dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently, with assistance available for heavier patients
- Perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail
- Work around animal dander, fur, odors, cleaning products, disinfectants, medications, and laboratory materials
- Safely work around animal waste, bodily fluids, blood, sharps, and infectious diseases while following hospital safety protocols
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Respond quickly and safely to changing patient and hospital needs in a fast-paced emergency environment

Animal Emergency Center of Sandy Springs specializes in complete veterinary emergency and critical care for dog and cat companion animals in Sandy Springs, GA. We are an emergency practice with a highly efficient team that is devoted to providing outstanding emergency care to our community. We provide after-hours, weekend, and holiday care to best support our clients in their time of need.
We pride ourselves in maintaining a nursing staff that is highly technically skilled in all aspects of veterinary specialty medicine.
As an emergency facility, we do not do routine veterinary care such as vaccines, elective surgeries (spays/neuters), or boarding. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:
- Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' emergency and critical care needs.

- Radiology Services: Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high-quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. We also perform detailed Ultrasounds (abdomen, heart, etc)
- Electrocardiography Services: We provide ECG services on-site.
- Laboratory: Our in-house laboratory facilities provide serum chemistry, hematology, serology, blood gases, urinalysis, and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.
- Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, and shampoos to meet the needs of your pet.
