Emergency Medicine Clinical Instructor – UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine
The UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine Department of Medical Sciences invites applications for a Clinical Instructor in Emergency Medicine within UW Veterinary Care.
This position is open to veterinarians who have completed a small animal rotating internship, an emergency medicine internship, or who have equivalent emergency medicine practice experience. Residency training, board certification or board eligibility is not required.
About Our Team:
UW Veterinary Care evaluates approximately 30,000 small animal patients annually. Our Emergency Medicine service operates around the clock in a collaborative, tertiary-care environment alongside a full complement of specialty services. Our emergency and critical care team includes rotating interns, residents, veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, client care liaisons and four ECC faculty. We take pride in a friendly, team-oriented hospital culture centered on patient care and creating a positive learning environment.
This position is currently offered as a fixed-term, (up to two years) appointment. As we continue to evaluate the evolving needs of our emergency service and educational mission, we are hopeful that demonstrated value in supporting patient care and clinical teaching, together with funding availability, may allow for continuation. Requirements
Position Overview:
The Clinical Instructor in Emergency Medicine is a full-time, academic staff appointment within UW Veterinary Care. The position is designed for veterinarians with a strong interest in emergency medicine and clinical teaching in a tertiary-care academic setting. There are no formal research requirements, making this an excellent fit for individuals whose primary professional interests lie in patient care and teaching.
The successful candidate will:
Provide direct emergency case receiving, patient care, medical decision-making, and client communication for small animal emergency patients.
Deliver clinical instruction, supervision, and mentorship to veterinary students and rotating interns.
Contribute to a collaborative learning environment through bedside teaching, case discussions, and clinical oversight.
Have the opportunity to participate in emergency medicine procedures laboratories, topic rounds, and other student-centered teaching activities.
Be scheduled for an average of 40 hours per week of emergency case receiving and/or teaching activities.
