Description

The California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS), School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis, is offering a 3-year residency program in veterinary toxicology. The program provides interested veterinarians with a solid, broad base in toxicology through diagnostic casework, seminars, and research. The goals of the program are to produce well-trained, board eligible toxicologists who function effectively in a variety of capacities that ensure human, animal and environmental safety and who are qualified to pursue careers in academia, industry or government. The program will contribute to preparation for certification by the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology and/or the American Board of Toxicology.

While separate from the residency program, there is the possibility of pursuing a PhD program in toxicology through the Pharmacology and Toxicology Graduate Group (http://ptx.ucdavis.edu/).  This would require a separate application to the Graduate Group after consultation with the resident mentor.

The current salary for the first year of the residency program is $53,965. Continuation of the program into the second and third year is contingent upon mutual satisfaction of both the resident and CAHFS. 

Requirements

Qualifications and requirements include: DVM or equivalent degree, demonstrated desire for a career in veterinary toxicology and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A minimum of 1 year of practice or research experience is desirable, but not required. Selection of trainees will be based on prior academic performance and experience, career goals, and letters of recommendation.
