Description
Lakeview Animal Hospital is a mixed practice. The cattle practice is mostly beef cow/calf. Equine work is primarily ranch, pleasure and trail horses, with some surgeries performed. The clinic is well equipped for both small and large animal work. In house lab, direct digital radiography, radio surgery unit, 4 ultrasound units, and 3 portable hydraulic chutes are in use. Lakeview is a small town in the south-central part of Oregon located 90 miles east of Klamath Falls, OR. Farming and ranching are the major enterprises. Nice place to live and raise a family. Skiing, fishing, hunting, hiking, riding, snowmobiling, and ATV riding are all local recreational options only minutes away.
Practice strengths and emphasis: Beef herd health management, nutrition, and preventative medicine; equine medicine, surgery, dentistry and corrective hoof care; small animal medicine, surgery and dentistry. Equine surgeries are mostly minor such as lacerations, castrations, cryptorchidectomies, ovariectomies, hernias, and periosteal stripping. Small animal surgeries include most soft tissue surgeries and orthopedics such as fracture repair and cruciate ligament repair. Bovine surgeries are mostly C-sections, failed castrations, etc. We do some small ruminants, a few llamas or alpacas, and see a few rodents, reptiles, exotics and birds. Swine work is mostly 4-H/FFA pigs. We also have a couple small bison herds.
There is some drive time for herd work since we are in a rural area. There is also some on-call time since we take emergencies 24/7/365. Salary and benefits are very adequate but will depend on applicant and experience. Salary or Hourly with production bonuses. Compensation can be discussed prior to or during interviews. Benefits are also excellent.
Requirements
DVM or equivalent. Oregon License. Additional licenses are often obtained after starting since we live close to state borders. Experience is welcome but we are also willing to mentor a new graduate. Background in both small and large animals is helpful.
